Types of Emergency & Exit Light systems

There are several different types of exit light fitting an there are two possible types of system. They are classified, in a technical sense by the type of battery system they use;
- A Single Point System is one in which each separate exit light has its own rechargeable battery contained within the light fitting itself.
- A Central Battery System is one which connects all exit lights to a central rechargeable battery system. As the type of battery system used is not always obvious you should seek advice from the customer or the installing electrical contractor as to which type of system may be installed.
Exit signs are generally illuminated at all times and they also have an emergency battery power supply which continues to illuminate the sign in the event of a power failure. The backup battery system, has sufficient capacity to keep the sign working for a minimum of 90 minutes.
