People who conduct essential safety measures maintenance!

The Building Commission is a statutory authority that oversees the building control system in Victoria, including Part 12 of the Building Regulations 2006 relating to the maintenance of Essential Safety Measures.

The Commission has appointed consultants to carry out research as to whether people involved in the maintenance of Essential Safety Measures (ESM) in Victoria should be a Registered Building Practitioner (RBP).

The Building Commission's Registration Category Review (RCR) evaluated RBP registration categories and classes in Victoria and a test was developed for evaluating the benefit of registration as an RBP. Building on the RCR this project seeks to establish, among other things, whether stakeholders to the project believe there is potential to provide a net benefit to the community through the registration of people who conduct ESM maintenance.

As part of this research the Building Commission requests broad industry assistance in a process to collect data about this matter.
