2010 Victorian changes to cooling tower registration

Reported by the Building Commission of Victoria, from January 2010 the Department of Health will be taking over the management of the cooling tower systems registration process. This is part of a realignment project that has come about due to the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008.

Previously, cooling tower systems, were required to be registered with the Building Commission, these new changes shift this responsibility to the Department of Health.

Fire Services Levy Review

I received my periodic Small Business newsletter from the Victorian state government today and one articl in particular caught my eye with the title - "Fire Services Levy Review"...

The State Government last week announced that it would undertake a review of the Fire Services Levy and has released a Green Paper which identifies several potential options for funding of fire services. Submissions will be called for from June 2010 with a closing date for comments on the Green Paper of 15 July 2010.

ABCB Webcast on Proposed Energy Efficiency Provisions for BCA 2010

The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) are seeking advice in regard to proposed changes to the 2010 edition of the Building Code of Australia (BCA).

Interestingly the ABCB are publishing the public information via a webcast (streaming video/audio).

This is an exciting development (video streaming) because it introduces new technology that improves communication...

The only problem is that the video requires the installation of a special "applet" which is no available for my web browser or is available as part of our security policy.

The message however is worth viewing if your interested or affected by the Proposed Energy Efficiency Provisions for BCA 2010... Now is your chance to have a say in the changes.

FPAA 2009 Board Elections

The Fire Protection Association of Australia has recently sought nominations for the Board of Directors. I have again been nominated (third year in a row) and welcome the opportunity to participate in the election.

I have prepared a candidate statement (below) that summaries the fresh approach, enthusiasm and commitment I offer.

I seek the support of all members and would be pleased to discuss any issues that may be of relevance in the election process.
