Approved Locking Devices for Safety Measures

Throughout Australia, there is an approved locking device specifically designed for safety measures such as control & indicating equipmnet, fire panels, emergency warning systems, fire sprinkler systems and padlocks.

These systems are fitted with a special lock often referred to as a "003" lock.

Emergency response personnel and maintenance contractors are issued with matching "003" keys.

Unfortunately some manufacturers do not comply with the Australian Standard for this key and as a result the Fire Brigade will write to a building owner to inform them of the non-compliance.

According to the fire brigade, they will access the safety measure in the most expedient manner. This may mean using gentle persuasion through to brute force.

The solution

For our contracted customers, during the routine inspection and testing of safety measures, Maintenance Essentials technicians will check the function of each lock.

If they find a non-compliant lock, they will notify you and seek authority for a replacement mechanism.
